WHY DO SERVICE?
Service is a WONDERFUL thing. It allows us to use the gifts and talents God has given us to make the world a better place. Service not only makes others feel happy, it makes YOU feel happy too! :)
As our mission states, St. Bernard Catholic School expects students to be committed to service. In light of this, we are requiring students in all grades to participate in service to the school, church or larger community. Opportunities for service will be offered by the classroom teacher, the principal and the church, and will require the student to reflect on the service in writing. These reflections will be part of the Religion grade.
Service In Fourth Grade
Each student must complete 15 hours of service by the end of the school year. Service involves volunteering your time and talents to your community, school, and church. I suggest doing five hours of service every trimester
(5 x 3 = 15), although you can space out your service hours however you see fit.
Every time you do an act of service, you must write this down in your religion notebook. Here are the questions you need to answer in your writing:
1. WHEN did you serve?
2. WHERE did you serve? (community, school, or church?)
3. HOW did you serve? (Talk about what you did. Give details.)
4. YOUR THOUGHTS on your experience. (How did you feel? What did you learn? Would you do it again?)
5. NUMBER OF HOURS and TIME of your service
NOTE: The entire entry must be at least 10 sentences. Include a photo!
